The Vice-Chancellor has approved the commencement Of the 2023 Edition of the Annual Essay Competition on Open and Distance Learning (ODL) at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).
This annual competition, instituted by the Vice-Chancellor, provides a platform for NOUN students to showcase their academic writing skills and reflect on their experiences within the unique open and distance learning (ODL) system.

The Topic for the NOUN Essay Competition.
This year’s theme, “Students’ Interaction and Cordiality with Staff at the National Open University of Nigeria’s Study Centres: My Experience,” offers an exciting chance to delve into the dynamics of staff-student relationships at NOUN and explore how these interactions impact your learning journey.
- Undergraduate: Entries are now invited from final year students of Undergraduate programmes at all Faculties in the University on the topic “Students’ Interaction and Cordiality with Staff at the National Open University of Nigeria’s Study Centres: My Experience.”
- Postgraduate: Entries are now invited from final year students of Postgraduate programmes at all Faculties in the University on the topic “Students’ Interaction and Cordiality with Staff at the National Open University of Nigeria’s Study Centres: My Experience.“
How to Participate in the NOUN Essay Competition on Open and Distance Learning.
Application Process:
To participate, simply follow the guidelines outlined in the official call for entries:
- Be a final year undergraduate or postgraduate student at NOUN.
- Write an essay of no more than 2,000 words in British English, adhering to the specified formatting guidelines.
- Clearly state your name, matriculation number, faculty, level, and sex in your submission.
- Times New Roman font, size 12 and spacing of 1.5 must be adopted.
Submission Process:
Submit your essay in Word format (no PDFs) to vcessays@noun.edu.ng by January 31st, 2024, with the subject line “Your Name, Year, Vice-Chancellor’s Essay Competition” (e.g., “Oluwatope Ojo 2023 Vice-Chancellor’s Essay Competition”).
Winning entries shall be notified of their success by 28th February 2024.
