Miva University Receives NUC, Admits 532 Students. The MIVA Open University, Abuja, has said it received representatives of the National Universities Commission at the university’s School of Allied Health Sciences.
A statement by the institution said that NUC’s visit was to ascertain the level of preparedness for the commencement of the Nursing Science degree and Public Health degree programmes under the university’s School of Allied Health Sciences.
This according to the school is part of NUC’s statutory mandate to verify the quality of physical facilities and human resources available for the commencement of new programmes in all Nigerian universities.
It added that the NUC representatives which consisted of Prof. Mohammed Ladan, Mr Nasiru Liman and Mr Simon Tertsegha were welcomed by top officials of MIVA Open University, namely the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Oladiran Arulogun; the Registrar and Director of Accreditation, Iheanyi Akwitti; Vice-President (Operations), Aniekeme Umoh, and the Director of Academic Planning, Prof. Jude Chukwu, to mention a few.

In his opening remarks, Arulogun emphasised that MIVA Open University’s focus was on innovative, digital and blended learning models.
He also informed the NUC representatives that the university was NUC-CCMAS compliant in all programmes, saying it embraced innovative curricula and placed a focus on technology, health, management, and governance programmes.
In response, the NUC team’s leader, Ladan, shared the commission’s expectations and reiterated that the commission visited to verify the sufficiency of the physical facilities and human resources made available for the Nursing Science and Public Health programmes.
He commended the university for its enthusiastic and positive reception of the NUC team.

The statement revealed that the nursing science/public health laboratories, university clinic, multimedia production studio, learner’s support services unit, guidance and counselling unit, IT facilities, e-library, physical library, lecture halls, and office spaces for academic staff were all inspected.
It read, “The NUC team acknowledged during the exit meeting that MIVA University’s teaching and virtual learning model were unique and unparalleled.
“Members of the NUC team were impressed with all of the resources presented to them for the Nursing Science and Public Health programmes and urged MIVA Open University to keep up the pace at which it was growing.”
Meanwhile, Miva Open University has admitted 532 students into the School of Computing and the School of Management and Social Sciences during the maiden matriculation ceremony, which took place on Saturday, October 28th, at the Podium, Lekki, Lagos.
Miva Open University was licenced in May 2023 by NUC to offer academic programmes through an open and distance learning approach.

The statement emphasised that the Chancellor of the University, Mr Sim Shagaya, founded the university to make quality education accessible and affordable to all while leveraging technology to create an innovative and dynamic learning environment.

Miva Open University currently runs a BSc. Computer Science, BSc Cybersecurity, BSc Data Science, BSc Software Engineering, BSc Business Management, BSc Economics, BSc Accounting, BSc Public Policy and Administration, B.N.Sc Nursing Science and BSc Public Health.
