In this post, you will find the reasons why your name is not on the NOUN 2023 graduation list and why you cannot graduate during this period. A lot of students have been flooding our comment sections and our Official telegram groups requesting to know why they can’t find their names on the just released 2023 graduation list of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).
The management of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has just released the 2023 batch 1 and batch 2 graduation list and the NOUN Postgraduate Graduation List (MSc, PGD, PhD) for the convocation ceremony. In this vein, some final-year students who are expecting to graduate cannot find their names among the students who are to participate in the ceremony.
However, there are reasons why you will not graduate and why your name is missing from the 2023 graduation list. Let’s look at these reasons below.
Before you proceed, take a look at the NOUN Convocation Ceremony Date.
- NOUN Final Clearance Procedure
- NOUN Second Batch Graduation List 2023 for BSc, MSc, PhD Students
- NOUN Graduation List 2023 (Batch 1)

Reasons Why Your Name Is Not on the NOUN 2023 Graduation List
1. Outstanding Courses
In each semester, every student of NOUN is expected to pick at least one (1) elective course. In this case, some students will just ignore these courses, pick only the compulsory (core) courses and register for the semester. However, these elective courses are very important in the first to third year as a student of a 400-level programme. It is only in the final year that these electives are not necessary to register.
Another reason that is considered an “outstanding course” is, that some students fail to register or re-register failed courses in the following semester. They maybe feel since they failed the course, there’s no need to re-register it again. Meanwhile, that’s not always the case here. Such courses are recorded as “outstanding courses.” In order words, it is recorded as such student did not take that course since there is no grade point for the failed course yet.
So, this is one of the reasons why your name is not on the NOUN 2023 graduation list.
2. GST Courses.
Every student of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) MUST register and participate in their GST courses. These are also known as “General Courses”.
Some students may be out of negligence if they fail to register for GST courses. Some register but don’t take their Tutored Marked Assignment (TMA) and Exam for GST courses. Some students also ignore these courses because the ones in their portal aren’t their Departmental courses. So they fail to register them.
Just like the first reason why your name is not on the NOUN 2023 graduation list, if you fail to register your GST Courses, it will be regarded as “OUTSTANDING COURSES”.
3. CGPA Calculation.
Most students even in their final year students, just register for courses, and exams and get results without knowing how to calculate their CGPA to determine if they meet the minimum grade (point) to graduate.
NOUN has minimum points for (CGPA) for every programme whether it is an undergraduate, master’s or postgraduate programme respectively.
So, if at the end of your study, you do not meet the required CGPA, you will be on PROBATION. This means you will not graduate.
4. Having a Negative Sign on your E-Wallet Balance.
The minus sign on your e-wallet balance can surprisingly cause you not to graduate. YES, it is what it is. It is either you are owing or you need to fund your NOUN e-wallet balance to clear up the negative sign.
Another way to clear the negative sign on your NOUN e-wallet is to approach your Study Centre’s ICT unit to assist you. That is if you are very sure you are not owing any balance whatsoever.
This is also one of the reasons why your name is not on the NOUN 2023 graduation list.
5. Incomplete Project before Submission Deadline and Release of Graduation List.
YES. As this sounds somewhat weird, it is also one of the reasons why your name is not on the NOUN 2023 graduation list.
If you are caught up in the category of students who normally work at deadlines, then this is your case. If you have an incomplete project before the stipulated deadline for submission or after the graduation list has been released, then you are sure to not be featured on the 2023 graduation list.
6. Unreleased Results for all Courses Offered Before Graduation List is Published.
Examinable course results, Non-examinable course results, SIWES results, Seminars results, Project results and every other result for all courses a student of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) offered must be released before the graduating list is published.
If any of these results are not out yet, then there is no way your name will be featured on the NOUN 2023 graduating list.
7. Change of Study Centre.
While this is not fully a major reason, it can also be one of the reasons why your name is not on the NOUN 2023 graduation list.
Students especially in their final year who have applied for a change of Study Centre and are yet to be processed and approved before the graduation list is out, may risk having their names featured on the graduating list. So, as a final year student it is better not to start this process because, for the record, this process takes time to be finally approved.
8. Malpractice.
This is now the major reason why your name is not on the NOUN 2023 graduation list.
NOUN takes malpractice as a very serious issue. Students who are caught in malpractice; cheating their way to “success” in exams will be penalized. This penalty applies to all students at all levels of the university if caught. Undergraduates; will be suspended for the next four semesters, and Postgraduate students will be suspended for two semesters.
So, if you are caught in malpractice, I will say, forget about graduating this time. Wait until you finish serving your penalty. Lol.
9. Failure to Register the “Newly” Introduced Courses.
The management of the university introduced some courses recently. These courses apply to all concerned students. Some students who are in their 300 or 400 level students can be given 100-200 newly introduced courses which can be found on their student portal’s course registration page. Some students maybe did not know about these courses or they purposely did not register and take them. So, it results in “OUTSTANDING COURSES” thereby, preventing them from graduating.
10. Missing Result/Script.
Lastly, this is the major reason why your name is not on the NOUN 2023 graduation list. If you have any missing result at any level and you fail to follow it up, then be sure of not graduating. Such courses whose results are missing will be regarded as “MISSING RESULT”.
So, you will have to sort this out to be featured on the graduating result.
What to do next?
We advise you to access your student portal and check for Outstanding courses, register them for the current semester and wait for the next graduation.
Register and participate in your GST Courses even though the courses in your student portal at the time of doing your course registration are not your departmental course. You can head to your Study Centre ICT unit to lodge a complaint or visit the NOUN e-ticketing portal (support.noun.edu.ng) to lodge your concern.
As a student of the National Open University of Nigeria, normalize checking your CGPA grades. This will guide you to either sit up in your academic performance or possibly help you know if you meet the minimum graduating mark. In case you don’t know how to check this, we have a page where we have explained in detail how to check your NOUN CGPA (check here). Also, you can access the NOUN e-ticketing portal, login to the portal with your login credentials and check your CGPA. If you still can’t access this portal, hurry to your Study Centre to ask for guidance.
Conclusion.
I hope these reasons as to why your name is not on the NOUN 2023 graduating list have answered your questions. So, if in case you among this category, do well to resolve these issues before you graduate.
If you have any other questions, feel free to drop them in the comments below and I will personally look through them with support. The entire team of NOUNNG.COM hereby congratulates all students who made it on the 2023 NOUN graduation list.

Hi Solomon,
You can meet up. However, this depends on when you’re able to get your project ready, submitted and graded on time.
